Like many things in life, most of us take our hair for granted, until we start to lose it. Only then do we realize how important it is to maintain our positive self-image.
Baldness and thinning hair are very sensitive topics for both men and women. A loss of hair is (mistakenly) associated with a loss of virility in men, and despite there being no medical proof to support this belief, many men suffer from depression when they realize they are going bald. Likewise, for women, thinning hair is associated with aging and decreasing attractiveness.
Luckily, when it comes to hair, surgery has developed many techniques to restore your locks to their full glory.
What is a hair transplant?
A hair transplant, or hair surgery, is a procedure which utilizes FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) and FUT (Follicular Unit Transplant) techniques to take hair from a donor site, where it is growing fully and abundantly, and uses it to cover areas that are subject to baldness and thinning. This procedure has been in use since the 1950s, although techniques have developed a lot since then.
Thanks to these advances, follicular unit transplantation can also be used to rebuild or thicken eyebrows and eyelashes. Individual hairs are taken from the donor site and, through a process of micrografting, added to the brows or lashes to repair damage, increase thickness, and add balance and symmetry to your features, making your face both more expressive and more attractive.
Who is a good candidate for a hair transplant?
Hair transplants can be suitable for both men and women, regardless of race. There are two factors which determine if you are a good candidate or not. Do you have:
- Areas of sufficient healthy hair growth to be used as donor sites
- A scalp that has the ability to sustain new hair growth in the transplanted site.
At Adcure, our dermatologists will give your scalp a thorough examination to ensure the operation will have the desired results. If there is no history of baldness in your family or the hair loss is sudden and dramatic, this examination may also include a blood test or even a scalp biopsy to determine the reasons behind hair loss.
Once the test results show that you are a good candidate, we will help you understand what the procedure will involve in terms of time and cost, and what are the outcomes you can realistically expect.
At Adcure, we realize that hair loss, which is often treated as a joke, can have devastating consequences for one’s self-image and self-esteem. Our dedicated team will use their years of experience with the FUE technique, as well as the FUSS technique, to help you build up your confidence with brand new, shiny, natural-looking hair.
If you have noticed patches of scalp shining through what used to be areas of thick growth, call us to book a consultation, and discover how we can help restore both your hair and your self-esteem.
